CLAYTON HOUSE PARKING
Guidance for anyone who wishes to travel to Clayton House by car.
There is no parking available at Clayton House. The building fronts onto Piccadilly which is a main through route. Access for deliveries/collections is by the rear entrance in Back Piccadilly (a one way street which must be accessed from Newton Street). The rear door is a fire exit and is kept locked. There is no entry phone on this door. If you require access for delivery/collection you MUST arrange beforehand for someone to open the rear doors and meet you at a specific time.
I am indebted to Colin Wood for the information on local parking availability.
There are Parking Meters in the vicinity of Dale St, Ducie St, Tariff St and many of the smaller streets adjoining these. These are all 3 hours maximum and a short distance from Clayton House. (In Mid February 2005 building work started causing the closure of a large part of Tariff St. so there are now considerably fewer meters but still plenty in adjoining streets nearby)
At the time of writing the charges for these are: 50p=30 minutes, £1=60 Minutes, £1.50p=90 Minutes, £2=120 Minutes, £2.50=150 Minutes and £3=180 Minutes.
The cheapest Car Park is possibly the one off Thompson Street which charges £3 daily but you need to be in before 9am to find space (10 minutes walk from Clayton House).
A little nearer, about 5 minutes walk from Clayton House, is Dale Street at £4.80 a day but only £3 if you arrive after 1.00pm.and £2.50 all day Saturday. Pay on entry. This Car Park is likely to be full if you arrive after 9.30am weekdays but does empty out later in the day. If full, there is likely to be space in Ducie Street Car Park which is nearby, opposite the end of Dale Street.
Ducie Street Car Park, which is situated at the Piccadilly and Piccadilly Railway Station approach junction, is about 7 minutes walk away and cost are:
1 Hour=£1.10, 4 Hours=£3.20, 24 Hours=£5.20 and all Day Sunday £2 (pay on exit)
There is also a NCP car park at Chorlton Street but this is more expensive, many others of course too numerous to mention.
(The Great Ancoats Car Park on Tariff St. previously listed is now closed.)
Visitors from north or south of the centre, or from the Eccles area may wish to consider parking near to one of the Metrolink stations and taking a Metrolink tram to Market Street or Piccadilly Gardens station. Reduced price return fares (and Senior Citizens' concessions) are available from 9.30am onwards and all day at weekends.
