The Society re-joins the Federation of Family History Societies

I am pleased to announce that after a gap of some years the Society Trustees have resolved to re-join the Federation of Family History Societies. Our application was approved in late January and our membership began on 1st February 2019.
The Society was one of the founding members of the Federation when it was formed in 1974 until the decision was taken in 2008 to withdraw whilst efforts were devoted to planning and executing the move into Archives+. Happily, now we are installed and bedded in, so-to-speak, in Manchester Central Library, it is time for us, once again, to play our part in the activities of the Federation as one of the leading Family History Societies in the U.K.
Support for the Federation is one of the Society’s constitutional aims and our renewed membership will bring additional benefits in many fields of our activity, notably in the development of strategic aims and the regulatory environment. Material benefits will also accrue from an improved insurance programme, lower cost publicity opportunities, valuable discounts for the purchase of books with a family history theme and participation in Federation-led projects and Fairs.
I am confident that renewing our membership will result in a better future for the Society as it, and the sector, faces the competition from commercial agencies and rapidly expanding online resources.
